The WoSFL joins the National Lottery football weekends

The West of Scotland Football League are delighted to be a part of The National Lottery Football Weekends.  If you are a National Lottery player you will be able to come and watch a WoSFL Premier Division match with a friend and get one of the tickets for free.

As fans, you know full well how damaging the pandemic has been to clubs in leagues like ours. With a halt in the football calendar and no gate revenue there were serious fears about the future of many clubs. Thankfully National Lottery players stepped in to protect many local football clubs, providing £12.5million of support to clubs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

As thanks for the essential support, 231 clubs in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are now taking part in The National Lottery Football Weekends.  Each club will, for one home fixture in March or April, run a special ‘Buy One Get One Free’ ticket offer for National Lottery players to take someone – potentially for the very first time – to a game.

Speaking about the National Lottery Football weekend league Chair Matt Bamford said –

“National Lottery players play a vital role in supporting our national game, but especially at non-league and grassroots level. The West of Scotland Football League prides itself on having clubs that are closely connected with the local community, and it is thanks to the emergency funding, that ensured their survival, that we are able to continue delivering the projects that make a real difference to their fans and the wider community.

We look forward to welcoming as many fans as possible to our National Lottery football weekend. Why not come and see your first match in the West of Scotland Football League and see how amazing local football is”.

Details on how to claim your free ticket and when will be coming soon so keep your eyes on our Social Media platforms and Website

WoSFL unveil Time to Tackle as Strathclyde Demolition Cup Charity Partner

The WoSFL Management Committee are delighted to announce that Time to Tackle will be our Charity Partner for the Strathclyde Demolition Cup for Season 2021/22.

Mental health issues are becoming increasingly more common and sadly suicide is a leading cause of death in Scotland among people aged 15-34 years. In 2018, suicide accounted for 28% of all male deaths in this age group. This statistic is shocking and we want to highlight the help that is available out there for people struggling with their own mental health. Time to Tackle co-founder Aaron Connolly is a player in the West of Scotland Football League, and the way the team use football and fitness as therapy made this partnership seem like a logical step as we look to help fight poor mental health.

Time to Tackle was founded in October 2019 by Aaron and his wife Siobhán Connolly following Aaron’s long running battle with poor mental health.  After struggling to find support Aaron and Siobhán decided to use their own lived experiences to create a group that would not only benefit them on a personal level but also give hope and support to others.

While considering the many aspects of mental health, Time to Tackle aim to provide the support to do the following;

  • Improve physical and mental health
  • Challenge stigma surrounding mental health
  • Promote open and honest conversations
  • Provide a safe non-judgemental environment
  • Create peer support networks to combat loneliness

Their award-winning Football Therapy program promises to help you smile again, enjoy exercising and create friendships, details of how to get in touch with the team are on their website

As part of the Partnership we will promote Time to Tackle on our social media channels as well as help them raise funds at Strathclyde Demolition Cup matches and work closely with Aaron and the team going forward with mental health campaigns throughout the course of the season.
